One year ago today, I received my first chemotherapy treatment! I am so grateful that today I am healthy and getting back into shape. It’s been a wild year that I would not wish on anyone. This blog has chronicled many details of my journey.
Thanks to everyone who supported me, treated me, and prayed for me. I was extremely well taken care during the past year, and for that I am extremely honored and thankful.
My wife Mary was my number one champion during this challenging time. She nursed me, comforted me, loved me, adjusted her schedule around my many appointment, cross-examined doctors, worried about me, made sure I received the best care possible, and much, much more. She is awesome!
I expect 2011 to be a fantastic year. I’ve been given the gift of returning to good health, and I do not plan to squander it.
I will be participating in the Country Music Half Marathon on April 30. With the help of my family, friends, and a few strangers, we’ve raised nearly $4,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Also, I expect to become a Big Brother very soon as part of Big Brothers Big Sisters. This is exciting, and I’m looking forward to mentoring a boy who has no father figure in his day-to-day life. Check it out, you would make a good Big Brother or Big Sister.
Next, stay tuned. More to come…
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Dick,
It’s so nice to hear that you are on the road to recovery. Holly and I wish you the very best and say hi to that wonderful wife of yours – Mary.
BTW- Holly’s dad recently died from liver cancer (Feb 5th, 2011), it’s been a tough past two years with him. Cancer touches us all.
You will be in our prayers.
Alex and Holly
