Two doctor appointments and two great results! My first stop was to see Dr. Barbara, my oncologist. She’s great and she was delighted with my progress. I had lost 6 pounds since my last visit, 6 weeks ago. Right on target – loosing one pound a week.We discussed target weight and I told her my goal is 165 pounds. She thinks that’s too low and feels that 170 pounds is where I need to be. So 170 is now my target weight.
Dr. Barbara was excited about my training to walk in the Country Music half marathon. I’ve been walking 25+ miles a week. Each visit Dr. Barbara adds another activity or area of focus on my road to full recovery. Normally, the next focus in her treatment plan is cardiovascular work. Check, I’m already there!
Next appointment in 6 weeks along with another CT scan. This scan will be 9 months post treatment. So I will be back in early May.
Then on to see Dr. N., my otolaryngologist who first diagnosed my cancer one year ago tomorrow. Both doctors are at Vanderbilt Medical Center, just at different ends of the campus. After taking my history, a Fellow at Vanderbilt (sorry I forgot his name) then “scoped” the back of my tongue and throat. This is amazing technology. He inserted a tiny camera in my left nostril (after some deadening medication) and I could see the inside of my mouth and throat on a TV monitor across the room. Guess what – no sign of the tumor! All clear and back to “normal.”
Dr. N. looked at the four photos taken of the back of my mouth and then examined my mouth, mainly my tongue. He was pleased with the results. Next appointment in six months!
So it was a great day at the doctors’ offices!
